Athens

When we arrived in Athens, the afternoon was so hot that we immediately retreated to the air conditioning of the new Acropolis museum. We had planned to go to the Acropolis first, but the museum provided great context for our visit in the morning. Brian continued his Greek coffee habit to prepare to absorb history.

After the museum we scoped the Acropolis from afar.

I love this recycling receptacle.

We then climbed Philopappou Hill for a view of the Parthenon and Athens,

In this next series of photos, Brian is pointing things out in the map while I am taking action shots.

Dinner was fantastic: goat puff pastry and a cheese plate!

The next morning we headed out early to see the Acropolis in the cool of the morning. Numerous dogs hang out around the site. There are also rules!

We managed to arrive before the crowds, but we were not alone.

Temple of Athena.

Parthenon!

Temple of Zeus viewed from the Acropolis.

Even though it is only 9:30, it is already in the high 80s F. We are glistening from the glow of history.

I quickly tire of posing for photos in this heat.

Theatre of Dionysus

Temple of Zeus!

Dogs seem to guard every ancient site.

We decided to explore the Ancient and Roman agorae before lunch.

Temple of Hephaestus. Can you see me?

View of the ancient agora from the temple.

Lunch of salad!

Brian then indulges again.

Our last Greek meal was great- black eyed peas with sardines, mussels, meat and Moussaka.

Greece was great. I'm now in Salzburg, leaving Sunday July 15. Will post pictures in the next day or so!
