Helsingor and Louisiana Museum

On our last day in Denmark, we took the train to Helsingor to see the Kronberg Castle - famous as Elsinore, in Shakespeare's Hamlet. The flower vendor outside the train station was undaunted by the cold windy day.

This sculpture is made of trash dredged from the Oresund Strait between Denmark and Sweden.

Kronborg in the distance.

The castle's moat looking back toward town.

The castle's gate - different parts were built in different years.

A panoramic view from the castle.

Brian seems worried about potential invaders.

Hello Sweden!

In the castle, Brian reviews plans for defense.

A wooden chest built in 1584. I like the heart-shaped lock.

The interior of the castle.

A large banquet hall.

The original staircase - strong construction!

Holger Danske - the sleeping giant who waits in the casements of the castle to defend Denmark in time of war.

The casements were creepy.

Brian waiting at the castle.

The castle grounds have armaments, a beach and great views.

We headed back toward town to grab lunch.

The train station.

We then headed to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, located on the shore of the Oresund Sound, south of Kronborg. The main exhibit featured the artist Yayoi Kusama. Here is one of her giant pumpkins.

We spent some time walking the museum grounds.

We headed back to Copenhagen for our last evening before heading to Prague.
